it means your boot config ( grub or lilo ) is configured to look
for /dev/hda5  for your root files ( / )

if it's not there .. you need too use root=/dev/someplace-else

and redo lilo/grub once yo got it going again

or your kernel does support ide ??? ( nah, not likely )
