I am also getting the same problem. Getting just 640X480 (I posted earlier to this maillist saying 800x600 sorry I was wrong)
I am attaching the logfile herewith after doing the following:
X > logfile 2>&1 &
sleep 10
killall X

My monitor is Dell 773S. I also tried with Samsung Syncmaster 793s.
Video card is: Intel 82865G
I also did this as someone suggested:
>Make sure that you have `discover' installed (apt-get install
>discover) then try and reconfigure the server again with low priority.
>dpkg-reconfigure -plow xserver-xfree86
Still same resolution!
Please help

Can you post the relevent section (Display/Screen) of the config
file /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 (don't post it *all* because the
fonts/mouse/keyboard/etc are not relevent.)
Also post the output from running:
X > logfile 2>&1 &
sleep 10
killall X
cat logfile
(There should be lots of '(II)' and '(WW)' lines.)
What happens if when you run X, you press CTRL-ALT-NUMBERPADPLUS ? This
should cycle through available graphics modes.
HTH ..
Alexis
