Apparently the tg3 driver you're using might be buggy.  Force it to
full-duplex mode.  Given the number of fixes that driver has seen lately, it
is probably a good idea to switch to the latest kernel (2.4.27 or 2.6.8.1)
at once, if you haven't done it already.  You can force it to full-duplex
mode in the kernel or modprobe command line, if the driver still doesn't
support the IOCTLs needed for miitool/ethtool to tell it to switch to
full-duplex.
