When building a new Kernel how do you...

Running 2.6.3-2 and would like to move to 2.6.6.  Am I correct that if I 
want to pull my old config options into the new kernel I do a "make 
oldconfig" from the new kernel source dir, or should I manually select 
the options from running "make xconfig".
