you wrote it yourself but it says "Generated by dexconf" at the top? What I did was remove those lines saying ### BEGIN DEBCONF SECTION and END... then I removed all references to the "Generic Mouse" even in the "Server Layout" section. And I made a Option "SendCoreEvents" "true" entry to my "Configured Mouse"... also make sure you didnt accidentally install "gpm" along the way ps -A | grep gpm
