I don't use Mac OSX, but you might want to take a look at gworkspace ... its a GNUstep app that sounds similar to what you're looking for. I just installed the GNUstep libraries, gworkspace and gnumail the other day and have been trying them out. The gworkspace project homepage is linked from gnustep.org.
