In most cases the current kernels support USB very well, I don't particularly see a problem. If installing woody, you'd need to do a "bf24" install to have inbuilt USB support in the kernel. The older 'stable' default kernel may not have USB support (correct me if i'm wrong guys, i'm not sure if Debian patches stuff like that into the kernel, or if it uses stock standard kernels).
