Thank you to the debian-installer team for their efforts! I have a few minor things I'd like to mention: - the "Retreiving Packages" screen's dialog box changed sizes as each new filename was displayed (longer file names, bigger box). It would be nice if it stayed the same size. - when retreiving packages, virtual terminal 4 gave me a lot of error messages of the type "Retrying failed download of ....". Also, it would be better if the selection of mirror was a higher priority (or at least an option to change along the way) - Installing LILO on to hard disk should give options (i.e. Select) rather than suggesting primary hard drive or on the root partition and then providing an edit box -- this will confuse new users ("what the hell does /dev/ide/..../disc mean?" -- if it were /dev/hda or /dev/hda4 it might be easier...) - At the Reboot screen, the wrong CD-drive was ejected. This is really not a serious issue, it was rather comical :-) I had my CD in the second CD drive and the 1st was ejected. - After the reboot (this may be a base-config thing?) my NIC driver (eepro100) was not automatically loaded, so I could not download the rest of the packages. A new user would have been quite confused, but luckly I know how to switch to another virtual terminal and do a # modprobe eepro100 # /etc/init.d/networking restart - base-config (again...) seemed to give me a random selection of 5 Canadian mirrors instead of all of them (this seemed unexpected) Anyways, I'd just like to thank everyone for their work on debian-installer. AFAICT, only a few bugs remain for i386. Thanks, -- Duncan Findlay
