someone else answered the gdm question, as to ssh, if you ever
connect to remote hosts with X forwarding and tunneling enabled then
disabling tcp in X will probably prevent that from working, as i
understand it X clients (applications) connect to that port to access
the X server, no tcp -> no remote X sessions.  I could be wrong
though.

if you never use ssh X forwarding then it should not matter.
