I hate to leave current users with only the option of using the package
from my personal repository or getting it from backports.

Since the package has no r-deps, would you consider allowing a migration
after an extended period in unstable?  Say 15 or 20 days?  If that is
out of the question, what is the procedure to have it removed?  File an
RC bug against the package?
