In case it's relevant, speaking from the upstream perspective I completely support and encourage this, and expect to help as needed to address any issues that might arise, perhaps even with additional point releases if that's preferred. Note that 0.33.x (the source of 0.33.7) is a "spur branch" specifically intended for more minimal releases (e.g. bugfixes). We've also tried to be careful about backward compatibility in general, and more specifically, I don't know of any related issues across any of the releases in question.
