It's hard to tell whether it's currently > totally broken or whether you just need to install some php package > alongside it to satisfy other packages's dependencies. > > I'd tend to think this pu request is about the latter, but you really > should be explaining why you want a change in stable in the first > placeā¦ Sorry for not doing this upfront: - The package in stretch isn't totally broken, actually it works as expected and does a great job. - There is just a (minor) annoyance, so your assumption is correct: I would like to serve IcingaWeb2 via uwsgi, that's why I've created #853891 initially: Currently, in a Nginx powered stack, one has to install packages like php7.0-fpm or the (deprecated) fcgiwrap to satisfy the inter-package dependencies. - Adding 'Provides: php', like the patch [1] does, would solve this issue and wouldn't force people into installing software, which they don't need, in this case at least. - I think taking this route is much more clean and "the Debian way" than fiddling around via self-made packages, using equivs or something similar. - I've rebuilt the package for myself with the patch attached: It does solve the initial problem and works as expected. - I think the risk of regression(s) is quite low, given that the patch only touches two lines of Debian code.
