I'm not quite sure if this is kdebase problem or kdemultimedia, but I suspect kdebase. The problem is that any sounds I can configure under kcontrol->Sounds&Multimedia->System Notification are not played. Clicking the Play button next to the field with the filename does nothing. I tested this with a completely new user and it still is there. I do have sound for example from xmms or using alsaplayer. Even the soundfiles that are setup in kcontrol can be played without any problem. Last thing: I tried to use a script which does "artsdsp play $@" and use this as external player for the system notification - no effect either. There is something totally broken there.
