Currently the basic use case are scientific citations. These are taken
over from debian/upstream files (in VCS) into UDD. I can live with any
solution that enables feeding UDD with the data we need.

I also do not have a problem with other technical solutions.

Since the data in debian/upstream is machine readable I do not see
any problem to convert these to whatever would be choosen.
