An "easy", legal but expensive way that just involves code from you: https://linux.org.au/conf/2004/abstracts.html#105 http://mirror.linux.org.au/pub/linux.conf.au/2004/speex/behoffski-Grouse_and_Grep.spx But if you are keen and have the time and expertise, I'd be putting something together with a esp8266 ($3 delivered in qty 1 from ebay ARM board with 2.4GHz WiFi that runs micro-python) together with a mains rated solid state relay ($2 ebay delivered qty 1). If you add on the glue (wires, connectors, picofuse, case) you are probably still looking at under $10 per item controlled. Of course the hardware has been done by others: https://www.instructables.com/id/ESP8266-MPSM-v2-DevBoard-MAINS-WIFI-Web-Power-Swit/ (but has the downside the mains side isn't off the shelf).
