Well, that's not a beige G3 but an iMac which is newer.

I want to emulate it with qemu before installing Debian on it. Perhaps I should

Try changing the emulation to a newer machine type such as the iMac.
Or just test on real hardware. You can install on an external Firewire
disk if you don't want to use the internal hard disk.
OpenBIOS is capable of booting both the Old World and New World machines, rather than
requiring separate firmware as per real Apple Macs.
