Now it's only wild guessing. ...See /var/log/installer/* on the installed system [1]. Post what's in there on the list. ok, thanks I re-installed Debian SID on the PPC Cube from the 09 Nov 2020 CD. After the GRUB installation failure, I see that there is a /var/log/partman and a /var/log/syslog, but no /var/log/installer/. These appear to be the relevant lines in syslog (but I'm also attaching the syslog file in case it turns out to be helpful). $ fgrep -i grub syslog Nov 10 09:29:25 anna[2818]: DEBUG: retrieving grub-installer 1.173+mac Nov 10 09:29:28 anna[2818]: DEBUG: retrieving grub-mount-udeb 2.04-10 Nov 10 16:46:35 in-target: linux-doc-5.9 debian-kernel-handbook mkvmlinuz grub-ieee1275 Nov 10 17:14:21 main-menu[225]: INFO: Menu item 'grub-installer' selected Nov 10 17:14:21 grub-installer: info: architecture: powerpc/powermac_newworld Nov 10 17:14:46 in-target: multiboot-doc grub-emu xorriso desktop-base fuse Nov 10 17:14:46 in-target: grub-common libfreetype6 libfuse2 libpng16-16 os-prober Nov 10 17:14:49 in-target: Get:4 cdrom://[Debian GNU/Linux 10.0.0 _Sid_ - Unofficial powerpc NETINST with firmware 20201109-20:16] sid/main powerpc grub-common powerpc 2.04-10 [2,651 kB] Nov 10 17:14:59 in-target: Selecting previously unselected package grub-common.
