It's in unstable only due to some nasty 64 bit bugs in the code. The package maintainer will disable building on 64 bit archs for the time being. The code for hfsprogs comes directly from apple, but Rogério has problems getting responses from them - and I have problems to find his update on mentors to upload it to the pool so it can finally transition to testing. He's currently not around for a few days, hopefully this issue can get fixed; and if someone raises their voices we can think of offering the package through backports.org.
