Dear Børge and Helge, thank you for your help. I tried with a mplayer compiled from source, updated all the packages mplayer depends on, and intalled the libxv, but it did not work. I then sent a bug (http://bugs.debian.org/397143) and the maintainer found out that I needed the '-vo x11' switch.
