I have the same exact computer and the problem subsided after I
switched kernels. The kernel I use is from ppckernel.org, it is one of
the "specialized" kernels, the 2.4 stable one optimized for the ibook.
I strongly recommend obtaining the config file for the 2.4 kernel and
then obtaining the source code from kernel.org, because ppckernel.org
limits downloads to 10k/s -- that can make downloading 35mb complete
hell.
The kernel by default does not include useful stuff like support for
airport cards, unfortunately. You'll have to compile a new one
yourself.
