I have exactly the same. I used to have unstable distro and it worked
great but now downgraded to testing and have the same misery.
What we need to get in order first is the sources.list and the
preferences file and get the correct commands to install the XF which
works (might be the case to have all packages from stable, except XF
from a unstable or experimental distro)
But at the moment I haven't got the details right, I know that hackig
is not needed, all we need is the install the correct package and
download the X config file from Matthias' site. I hope some people with
woody or testing can send us some precise sources.list etc files and
command. Because it does/did work.
