Hi guys :) I've just got a brand new G4 powerbook with the Nvidia graphics chipset.
After much hackery, I've got Debian Woody and XFree86 4.3 (built from source - hacked files to get nv driver built). startx now doesn't fail, but what appears isn't even remotely usable - it's a green/red dot matrix, in which the window outlines are faintly visible. I found some old archive messages pointing to a hacked nv driver, but I can't find any info on it. Would somebody be able to provide a few ideas? Many thanks, David Kernel is 2.4.23-pre5-ben0 PS: Here's the output of lspci -vv for the graphics controller: 00:10.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation: Unknown device 0329 (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA]) Subsystem: nVidia Corporation: Unknown device 0010 Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66Mhz+ UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 248 (1250ns min, 250ns max) Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 48 Region 0: Memory at 91000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M] Region 1: Memory at a0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Expansion ROM at 90000000 [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: [60] Power Management version 2 Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot-,D3cold-) Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME- Capabilities: [44] AGP version 3.0 Status: RQ=31 SBA+ 64bit- FW+ Rate=x1,x2 Command: RQ=0 SBA- AGP- 64bit- FW- Rate=<none>
