Thomas, Thanks for your help. However, I didn't take the card bus ID from lspci but from 'cat /proc/pci". Besides the ID is good because the computer does send signals to the moniter through the card at that busID because I do get really distorted crosshatched craziness for a picture.
Perhaps I should use a newer server, but I thought I could use 4.1.0.1 of debian stable because the card was build in 1997 and surely, I reasoned, has been supported by this time. Besides if I wanted something newer I wouldn't be running debian. I also can't use the xvidtune because, when do some random combination of configuration I get a picture, there is no X cursor to select the buttons on the xvidtune. Additionally, I tried auto-generating from xf86config as well and those configurations don't work. Yours is the first success story I have ever heard of someone successfully using xf86config. Its utterly remarkable to me that it gets installed at all on X for the powerpc, because its never worked for my machines. Thanks for your help.
