Sorry, I must admit that I did not know anything about apm emulation. Is
it in the kernel?

I use:

ii  xfree86-common 4.2.1-5        X Window System (XFree86)
infrastructure ii  xserver-xfree8 4.1.0-16       the XFree86 X server
ii  xserver-xfree8 2002.12.05-4   The DRI CVS trunk XFree86 X server

Yes, I use UseFBDev, DRI is enabled
