As far as I read, the newer model uses a different processor than the older model, that consumes less power. Is that correct? I'm reading a lot about the portables made by Apple because I'm interested in getting one (especially after hearing about the long battery life claims). And can anybody help with some questions that I have regarding the new iBooks? Are the 600MHz ones sufficient to play DVDs under Debian (say, with xine or vlc)? I've read that both programs currently work with altivec, but is altivec strictly necessary for playing DVDs with PPCs? The other solution (i.e. booting MacOS X) is not that bad, but if I could do all that under Debian, it would be nice. []s, Roger... P.S.: It's also nice that mplayer can be compiled on PPC (well, at least 0.60pre2 could -- I don't know about 0.60 final :-) ). So, DivX movies can be played with a Mac running Debian. :-) -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Rogério Brito - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - http://www.ime.usp.br/~rbrito/ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
