Hi,
we managed yesterday to install potato base (2.2 r3) on a really
stubborn slot-in iMac. Several things still need to be fixed.
Possibly the questions are answered in a FAQ doc or a HOWTO. In that
case (or perhaps for other cases) please just tell me the best PPC/Mac
specific URLs to look at.
These are the things to be addressed:
The console is cut off at the left margin. So it is not possible to see
the prompt. How to fix this?
At the moment the keyboard is set to US, but sure I would prefer the
key settings to correspond to what is written on the keyboard (German
standard) instead of searching for slash, backslash or @ all the
time. Unfortunately no option for German key settings was offered during
install.
Perhaps a comment on the base install procedure:
We needed quite a while to install potato on the iMac. Basically the
problem seems to be incorporated in mac-fdisk. It partitioned the
harddisk according to the needs, but afterwards the install script could
not initialize and activate those partitions (We used option C to do
so). In the end we used "Laufwerke konfigurieren" (the MacOS tool) to
partition the harddisk. From that point on it worked out.
An additional problem were the three experimentators fiddling in front
of the screen. None of us is an expert in Mac hardware (MIPS, i386, m68k
and alpha, next time PPC possibly will be included in this list). We
were a little bit stupefied by the heap of partitions showing up when
printing the partition table to the screen! ;-)
