Does MacOS work?  (i know its hard to tell since macos crashes all the
time under normal conditions anyway but...) 

try this kernel:

you might try removing the USB hub too, its possible something funny
is going in with the kernel usb support and that hub, hard to say for
sure.  i don't use USB on my machine.
