I uploaded a new upstream version a couple of days ago which fixes some problems (the previous one didn't even compile on glibc2.1 systems.. oops!). Can you try getting version 2.5-2 and check if that works? Also please check if other CD-players and audio application do work so we can be sure it's not a kernel issue.
