I think it is safer to tell people to upgrade bash by hand and verify what may be wrong with preinstall or postinstall script... The fact that the package was still in /var/lib/dpkg/methods/ftp/debian/dists/unstable/main/binary-powerpc/base shows that dselect fetched the package and tried to install it but failed.
