If you opt to install the quik booloader during the install, you won't need mac at all; neither for installing nor for booting. I've been using it with a mac 7600 and Sarge without problems.

I installed sarge a few days ago on a ibook g3, without problems. Simply press the C key during boot (with the sarge cd inserted), and the sarge installer will automagically start.
