For the record, this happened now. autodep8 landed in unstable, and I just removed the hardcoded "guess control" bits from autopkgtest and the spec; adt-run uses autodep8 instead (if available): http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/autopkgtest/autopkgtest.git/commit/?id=8f16b353d5a39 I don't think the "Automatic test control file for known package types" section should/needs to go into the official policy, as it's an optional feature of DEP-8 implementations.
