Hi Bill, I am very disapointed that you did not seem to seek consensus with the other Policy Editors before answering.
My previous email was worded very softly to help you save the face (and to be sure to not hurt you or others in case your silence would have been caused by bad events in your life), but I totally agree with Josselin that your behaviour has been unacceptable. I have now appealed to the technical comittee (http://bugs.debian.org/741573) to overrule you and allow us to upload the next version of the Policy with the updated section on menus and media types that has been seconded and committed earlier. As a final comment, let me remind you that among all the proposals that were debated, one was keeping the whole section on the Debian Menu system, with the only change on that matter being the addition of this paragraph, that is factual and reflects how Debian is since a few releases. The Debian menu unifies the menu systems of window managers. In some desktop environments such as _GNOME_ and _KDE_, it has been superseded by the FreeDesktop menu and is hidden by default. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=707851#195 You did not support it and chose to play obstruction instead, and as a result you are isolated and will get an even more dissatisfying outcome. I am sorry for this, but I think that you are the sole responsible. I did my best to help you.
