adduser is fine, although in maintainer scripts you should only use it with the --system flag. Read down to 10.2.2 and you'll see 'adduser --system' mentioned explicitly. 10.2.1 is indeed just talking about direct modification. Cheers, -- Colin Watson [EMAIL PROTECTED]
