I've recently uploaded a package called `doczipper' that compresses the HTML documentation in /usr/doc... It comes with documentation explaining how to configure `apache' to use "mod_rewrite" and a service script that decompresses the document as it is streamed to the net.
It was destined for `experimental', but is stuck in Incoming right now, the REJECT message says my PGP key is not in the keyring... I've just changed it, and am awaiting having it signed by another Debian developer. Go ahead and grab it from there if you like; I'll leave it for a few days. Please at least read its manual. DON'T just run it without reading its manual. Yous might like to look it over. Note that it's currently a little broken; I got the dependancies wrong, and there's NOT a script to decompress the HTML after it's been compressed. That's why it's going in EXPERIMENTAL for now. Please at least read the manual, and give me a little feedback. Try it if you like; after you've read my Perl code and feel comfortable running it. Note the commandline switches for telling it what directory to run on and such... you can experiment with a copy of one of the /usr/doc directories. I may require reading some of the Apache documentation. It's not going to "just work" yet. Please send me comments, ideas and feedback. Tell me if I've done the `dpkg' locking thing right.
