IMHO, I don't think it would be a good idea to change the definition of "optional" and "extra" in the deep freeze ]. I understand that part of this bug (#29874) was not easy to solve (for example, between xmpuzzles and xpuzzles), so I'm going to create a list of conflicts as complete as I can and will post it to debian-devel so that the maintainer themselves decide about the right priority of each one (in many cases, conflicting optional packages are maintained by the same person).
