There seem to me to be two issues here: 1. Herbert Xu claims the default configuration is unsuitable for his use. I think this is a non-bug; if a user wants to mess around with the configuration in ways like this they should not be surprised if things break.
2. Herbert claims to have _lost_ mail as a result of this. I think this is a serious complaint. How come the mail was lost rather than bounced ? If 2. turns out to be a real problem then the bug is definitely of `severity: grave', but it should still not hold up the release, mainly because sendmail isn't our default MTA.
