Okay.  I'm not sure why you couldn't do this with dependencies but then
again, I'm currently confronted with a problem in less that I can't
solve that way, so...

That might work.  Not many packages need it now, but I suspect if it was
available, more people might use it.  'Course this might also be a
problem since people may use dpkg-perl rather than the more static
methods that things like dpkg, dselect, dpkg-scanpackages, and deity
could use easier.

The biggest problem that I see here is that dpkg-perl is still
"skeletal" according to its description.  I'm not sure that perl package
releases would fit real well with the dpkg-perl releases.  Possibly
since dpkg knows that perl-base will be installed, it could include
dpkg-perl in its package...

If it looks like tetex is the only thing that uses it.  I'm not sure
that this is/should be the case.
