Ok, I've asked upstream. I have been told me that the main reason of the fork of mutter/muffin was that gnome project was keeping changing mutter making it incompatible with cinnamon: gnome people were introducing breaking changes that cinnamon project did not want. Due to this, they were forced to fork mutter. This is why muffin looks so similar to its state at the time of the fork. But it is more mutter that have changed. They have tried to discuss with gnome in order to stabilize the API in order to keep gnome-shell and cinnamon working on top of it. But finally that has not been an option: gnome is heading in a different direction than cinnamon, and there doesn't seem to be any chance of them working together. Cheers, Nicolas
