I don't think you're speaking out of turn at all. :-) > I believe that these sorts of files should go into /usr/share/<package> > now. > > Let me know if I'm wrong on this one. I read that bug as being specific to binaries that are architecture- specific. It looks to me like the current unstable version of libpam-modules installs: agamemnon:/usr/share/doc/libpam-modules/examples/upperLOWER> ls -l total 16 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 661 2002-09-15 15:08 Makefile -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4064 2002-12-15 16:24 upperLOWER* -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4002 2002-09-15 15:08 upperLOWER.c -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2420 2002-12-15 16:23 upperLOWER.o I think the bug (and associated patch) just intend to change things so only the .c file and the Makefile are installed, and not the executable and the object file. Note, I'm not suggesting that anything anyone "depends" on should go into the /usr/share/doc/<package>/examples directory - but I still think it's the proper place for example code (just not binaries).
