hello mentors, I just subscribed so I send few words about me:
* I started using debian ~25y ago * I contributed since then with few patches, docs, bug reports, support (on debian-users-french), co-organized some perl and python workshops and conferences, have some modules in the CPAN * I contributed to koha and sympa, both packaged in debian * I was floss evangelist at Renater * I tried from time to time to contribute teams (I wish I could help Dominique Dumont when he was alone on raku) but never took the time to really dive in. As I finally need packaging skills at work, I joined this list so I can contribute in a more productive way. There are many things I have in mind for years. the ones I have in mind right now: * package some tools of mine * update the raku package and dependencies * contribute to the raku-debian ecosystem (have dh-make-raku on top of zef?) * be more active in -sciences and -perl groups * understand and join the effort to have debian 100% reproductible (I saw a debconf 2024 talk about it and this is important in the academic world) Discussions I would like to push in debian * some package namespaces (like vim-*) are messy: you don't know from the package name if it's a vim flavor a component, a plugin, an external tool, a filetype, ... it would be nice to have one more level * I don't know how popular this take is but I really would like to help replacing bash and coreutils by busybox in the debian core (I think I'm a pretty good dash programmer and I can ensure 90% of the scripts I reviewed don't need bash at all). * I maintain poor quality packages (no source, ...) with up to date versions of tools like spago or crystal and I know lot of people are doing this. I know there are security issues about it but I wonder how to create have joint forces and more trust on this. * I have in mind to create a very minimal debian image for qemu so windows users can easily use a linux GUI (icewm) with our tools (if I don't find a better solution) I'm really happy to finally join this list.
