Thanks for your reply. Mine are already renamed with no hypens.

Can it be the boot parameter vga= to clear the screen?

I have seen other distribution like knoppix for example that once you
select an option from the menu, the screen is cleared and then the usual
messages are displayed in colour. Do not know how to do that...
