I'm not using a Debian kernel, but a custom 2.6.17.3. I left the
ipw2200 module out of the kernel and compiled the 1.1.0 after
installation. To get a working module i needed to install the
network stack first. http://ieee80211.sourceforge.net/
The 2.4 firmware is placed in " /lib/firmware/" and my wifi is
working. Although I'm having problem with wpa, but i haven't had
time to troubleshoot. So will properly soon work..

Is your wifi working? When I was using hotplug, I always placed my
firmware in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/.

Best of luck.
