Do you have agpgart and radeon.so kernel modules loaded? Is the latter

No, that's fine, and looking at your log everything is perfect:
(II) RADEON(0): [DRI] installation complete
...
(II) RADEON(0): Direct rendering enabled
this is good.
So, exactly what is the problem? what's your glxinfo output?
