Mutt can be setup to use the handlers given in /etc/mailcap or ~/.mailcap for arbitrary mime types.
For example, to get automatic viewing of html email inline with my client, I added the following to my .muttrc: auto_view text/html and in my .mailcap: text/html; w3m -T text/html -dump %s; copiousoutput The mailcap entry needs to be marked as copiousoutput for mutt to use it.
