Hi, I don't own this particular noteboot, but a Toshiba 3000-514, which is more or less the same except the sound chip. This is afaik what I discovered when I installed my notebook, and took some howtos about Dell i8000, Toshiba 3000, Toshiba 5005 and so on into concern....
I had a similar problem, and after moving to a 2.4.x kernel (what I also wanted to do), I just works. BTW, which kernel did you use for installation? The normal kernel just doesn't work on Toshibas afaik, I had to take the kernel from cd 3 of a pre-woody cd set. kernel-pciide or so.
