You can install LILO using d-i (has always been an option for i386). Just use the <Go Back> button when asked to install GRUB to escape to the main menu of debian-installer and choose Install LILO bootloader. There is even an option to continue without bootloader. Booting the installer in "expert mode" (or with bootparameter 'DEBCONF_PRIORITY=medium') are other options.
