I'd highly recommend thinkpad: it's the best laptop I ever had (right
now I own a Toshiba Portege 7200CT, and even with a 600MHz PIII it
can't really outshine my trusted 770E).

There's lots that's "icky". Don't pay too much attention to IBM's
claim of Linux support: they do, but it does not seem to be as much
applicable to their laptop division. Last I checked there were
probably 2-3 postings in the support base (but this has been about 2
months ago, so YMMV).

Then again, despite of that my Linux experience on a thinkpad was
perfect. As a matter of fact, Linux had saved me a few times -- you
just can't beat the CLI in terms of power consumption.

On the other hand, Toshiba is not even claiming support of Linux, but
this site http://support.toshiba-tro.de/forum/linux/default.asp has
lots of nifty information on "alternative OSes" and Toshiba laptops.

As far as specifics go, yes, you will be able to suspend (but I don't
think hybernate, i.e. save your work into a hybernation file, then
recover). All of your devices will work. You can run X in
accelerated mode on Thinkpads; in case of Toshiba you'd need to see
what chip is used.

I think that there's tons of info on Thinkapds and SatelitePro on the
Net. Try Google.
