The powerpc RTC support has changed to use RTC_DEV_GENERIC, rather than the RTC_DEV_PPC option in 2.6.29 and below. The configuration needs to be updated to use RTC_DEV_GENERIC, indeed, the RTC_DEV_PPC option has been deleted in 2.6.30. The init scripts will complain that the RTC cannot be accessed. Steps to fix: Rebuild kernel with CONFIG_RTC_DEV_GENERIC=y.
