hi, in vanilla kernel-sources from 2.6.6 up to now is a bug on acpi-handling with speedstep-centrino on some notebooks like my asus s5200n. i reported the bug (#257763) and a patch solving the problem. the fix was added to kernel-patch-debian-2.6.8 (acpi-speedstep-fix.dpatch.bz2) by christoph hellwig and then you closed this bug. thats all right by now but the problem is already (kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686_2.6.8-2_i386.deb) there. the kernel-source-2.6.8_2.6.8-5.deb is now already patched. when kernel-images build by the scripts in kernel-image-2.6.8-i386_2.6.8-2.tar.gz the PREVIOUSLY PATCHED source GETS UNPATCHED. i comment out the patch call in file 'debian/rules' and the newly created kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686_2.6.8-2_i386.deb works perfectly. so there seems some mistakes in patch-handling.
greetings, jens
