Yes, I am having similar problems with both radeon and nvidia graphic
drivers.
The short answer is I have erratic problems and can not find the source. My
systems lock up completely Alt F2 or switching to virtual terminals will
not work. I have also tried clean installs which seemed to work until
moments ago. The one thing that appears to work is the removal of the
google-chrome 55.0.2883.87 ~/.config/google-chrome folder. Removal at least
lets me login and start the cycle again. I have machines with chrome
pinned to an older version that do not (yet) have any problems.

Frustrated,
Rich
